WOODS WIDE WEB

Trees talk and share resources right under our feet, using a fungal network nicknamed the Woods Wide Web. Some plants use the system to support their offspring, while others hijack it to sabotage their rival.


VOCABULARY (fungal/fungus; resources; network; nickname; offspring; hijack; sabotage):

1. A person's child / The young of an animal or plant.
2. To take or take control of (something) for your own purposes.
3. To destroy or damage (something) deliberately so that it does not work correctly.
4. Relating to or caused by a fungus / Any one of a group of living things that often look like plants but have no flowers and that live on dead or decaying things.
5. A supply of something (such as money) that someone has and can use when it is needed.
6. A system of lines, wires, etc., that are connected to each other.
7. A name that is different from your real name but is what your family, friends, etc., call you them when they are talking to you or about you.
