JOHN LENNON

John Lennon was a British singer-writer and a key member of the Beatles. After the Beatles, Lennon went to have a distinguished solo career. He was also an anti-war activist.

"If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliché/ (an obvious remark) that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that's his problem. Love and peace are eternal".

WOODS WIDE WEB

Trees talk and share resources right under our feet, using a fungal network nicknamed the Woods Wide Web. Some plants use the system to support their offspring, while others hijack it to sabotage their rival.


VOCABULARY (fungal/fungus; resources; network; nickname; offspring; hijack; sabotage):

1. A person's child / The young of an animal or plant.
2. To take or take control of (something) for your own purposes.
3. To destroy or damage (something) deliberately so that it does not work correctly.

POMPEII -HISTORY

Mount Vesuvius, a volcano in Italy, has erupted more than 50 times. Its most famous eruption took place in the year 79 A.D. The volcano buried the ancient Roman city of Pompeii under a thick carpet of volcanic ash. Two thousand people died, and the city was abandoned for almost as many years. When a group of explorers rediscovered the site in 1748, they were surprised to find Pompeii was mostly intact.
