HALLOWEEN 2016

Halloween falls on October 31st each year in North America and other parts of the world. What do you know about Halloween? Do you celebrate in your country?

Halloween has evolved and changed throughout history. These days Halloween is not usually considered a religious holiday. It is primarily a fun day for children. Children dress up in costumes like people did a thousand years ago. But instead of worrying about evil spirits, they go from house to house. They knock on doors and say "trick or treat". the owner of each house gives candy or something special to each trick or treater.

The Man Who Knew Infinity (A current film)

Colonial India, 1913, Ramanujan is a 25-year-old shipping clerk and self-taught genius, who failed out of college because of his near-obsessive, solitary study of mathematics.
Ramanujan leaves his family and community to travel across the world to England. He works with Hardy.
Hardy fights to get Ramanujan the recognition and respect he deserves.

Ramanujan (22 December 1887 - 26 April 1920) was an Indian mathematician and autodidact. He made extraordinary contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series and continued fractions.
Ramanujan was quickly recognized by Indian mathematicians. He began a famous partnership with the English mathematician G.H.Hardy. The Cambridge professor realized that Ramanujan had rediscovered previously known theorems in addition to producing new ones.

HAPPY EASTER!

When the shops are full of Easter eggs you know it will soon be Easter. Easter Day is always on a Sunday but the date varies unlike Christmas. It is the Sunday following the first full moon after the first day of Spring, around 21 March. This means that Easter can be as early as 22 March or as late as 25 April.

The custom of giving eggs at Easter celebrates new life. Eggs were always thought to be special because although they do not seem alive, they have life within them especially at springtime when chicks hatch out. chocolate eggs have become popular and these are given on Easter Sunday.

In some countries parents tell their children the Easter Hare or Bunny has hidden chocolate eggs and they race to find them round the house or garden.

Egg rolling, a popular Easter game, is usually done with coloured eggs. One of the most well known events is held in America on the White House lawn. Children and parents push the eggs along through the grass with wooden spoons.

REMEMBER: The hare/bunny/rabbit symbolises fertility and rebirth.
