MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016

Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the son of God. His birth date is unknown because there is little information about his early life. There is disagreement among scholars on when Jesus was born. Christians celebrate Jesus' birthday on December 25. Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas Day on or near January 7.

Symbols

The mistletoe. By tradition, people who meet under a hanging mistletoe are obliged to kiss. Images of Santa Claus, also known as Father Christmas, snowmen, reindeer, and candy canes are seen in cards, posters, signs and other printed or marketing material associated with the Christmas celebrations.

WHAT 'S ON? THEATRE 0N 17th NOVEMBER (FROM PRIMARY 2 to 6)

TREASURE ISLAND
Two desperate pirates. A lost treasure chest. A shipwreck. A desert island. Hungry natives. These are just a few elements in this comical adventure by Face to Face. Two pirates face off in a treasure hunt which leads through various scenes from the tavern to a pirate ship. Inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's classic, the show uses songs, humour and the help of the audience to recreate the pirating era so well known and loved by the children and adults alike.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN !!!

History of Halloween

Halloween falls on October 31st each year in North America and the other parts of the world. What do you know about Halloween? Do you celebrate it in your country?

More than a thousand years ago the Christian church named November 1 All Saints Day (also called All Hallows). This was a special holy day to honor the saints and the other people who died for their religion. The night before All Hallows was called Hallows Eve. Later the name was changed to Halloween.

Like the Celts, the European of that time also believed that the spirits of the dead would visit the earth on Halloween. They worried that evil spirits would cause problems or hurt them. So on that night people wore costumes that looked like ghosts or other evil creatures. They thought if they dressed like that, the spirits would think they were also dead and not harm them.

These days Halloween is not usually considered a religious holiday. It is primarily a fun day for children. Children dress up in costumes like people did a thousand years ago. But instead of worrying about evil spirits, they go from house to house. They knock on doors and say "trick or treat". The owner of each house gives candy or something special to each trick or treater.

TIBOLI ESKOLA

I start the new school year in a new school, in Bilbao, near home. Almost everything is new for me: new colleagues, new pupils, new parents... I hope to work hard and be happy. Tiboli Eskola (Vda. de Epalza Eskola) is a good school and I'd like to help keep it that way and if possible improve the present situation.
It's time for new challenges. I'm just grateful for my job and I'm ready to do my best. I wish you all a very good year and the spirit of Mrs Casilda de Iturrizar be with us.

GOODBYE RONTEGI

Time to say goodbye,
Time to say “sorry”,
Time to be grateful for,
Time to feel emotions,
Time to say new hellos

Goodbye children,
Goodbye colleagues,
Goodbye parents,

Sorry for being too hard sometimes,
Sorry for not being sweet sometimes,
Sorry for not smiling more,

Thank you for your happiness,
Thank you for your patience,
Thank your for understanding me,
Thank you for teaching me so much,
Thank you for showing me how lucky I am

I feel sad,
I feel happy,
I feel weak,
I feel strong,
I feel like crying,
I feel like giving hugs to everyone

Hello to the new school,
Hello to the new colleagues,
Hello to the new pupils I’ll meet,
Hello to everyone!

The last goodbye by Billy Boyd - Lyrics

EASTER HOLIDAYS!

Easter holidays are here. We've got 15 days to enjoy ourselves and have  quite a long rest. It's spring, although the sun is still far away from us. I don't know where it is but it seems to be on holidays, too. Is it having a bit of sunshine? But, where on earth is it?
Enjoy yourselves and be good. See you on 13 March!!!

EASTER IS COMING....SPRING IS COMING!

In parts of Northwestern Europe large bonfires, called Easter Fires, are lit on Easter Sunday and Monday. While there are various explanations for the origin of the Easter Fires, the most common Saxon tale is that Easter is a time when spring becomes victorious over winter and the fires were to chase the darkness of winter away. Today, however, the meaning of the fires is simply to bring communities together.

carnival around the world

The roots of carnival are both older and newer than the Christian traditions that started in Europe and have spread with colonialism throughout much of the world. Ancient Greek and Roman pagan rituals as well as the folklore, music and dance of colonized peoples have forged colourful expressions of each country's respective history and cultures.

Creative disguises and parody are characteristic of carnival in many countries, which historically gave oppressed and marginalized groups the opportunity to subvert norms of class, race and gender.
