CHRISTMAS (Part 1)

Christmas is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ and a widely observed holiday, celebrated generally on December 25 by millions of people around the world.
The exact month and day of his birth are unknown. His birth is mentioned in two of the four canonical gospels.
Popular modern customs of the holiday include gift giving, Christmas music and carolling, an exchange of Christmas cards, church celebrations, a special meal, and the display of various Christmas decorations, including Christmas trees, Christmas lights, nativity scenes, garlands, wreaths, mistletoe, and holly.
In addition, several closely related and often interchangeable figures, known as Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas and Christkind, are associated with bringing gifts to children during the Christmas season and have their own body of traditions and lore.
The economic impact of Christmas is a factor that has grown steadily over the past few centuries in many regions of the world.

GUY FAWKES DAY - ENGLAND

BONFIRE  NIGHT

Bonfire Night is a uniquely British event when we "celebrate" the discovery of the Gunpowder Plot against the King and Parliament in the early 17th Century. In fact, nobody cares about the origins of the celebration any more, but we all enjoy a good bonfire, firework display, and sausages on the 5th November each year!

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot,
We see no reason,
Why gunpowder treason,
Should ever be forgot!

SCARY HALLOWEEN SONG

Scary things don't frighten me. I'm not afraid if I can't see the spooky things up in the tree, reaching down and squeezing me. I'm not afraid of the big bad wolf or the wicked witch of the west. I don't care if I get scared; it's the thing I like the best. Say "Booo!" Say, "Ha, Ha, Ha", Now, scream!!!

" A day without a laugh is a wasted day " _ Charles Chaplin

SMILE

Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though its breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you´ll get by
If you smile with your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You´ll find that life is still worthwhile

If you just
Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That´s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what´s the use of crying?
You´ll find that life is still worthwhile

If you just
Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though its breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you´ll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You´ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

That´s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what´s the use of crying?
You´ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile.

TXISTU

The txistu is a kind of fipple flute that became a symbol for the Basque folk revival. The name may stem from the general Basque word ziztu "to whistle". This three-hole pipe can be played with one hand, leaving the other one free to play a percussion instrument.

Evidence of the txistu first mentioned as such goes back to 1864. Yet it is apparent that it was used earlier, although it is not easy to establish when it started out.

The Association of Txistularis in the Basque Country was formed in 1927 to promote txistularis. The organization has continued its activities to the present, except for an interruption during the Francisco Franco dictatorship.

BOMBING OF GUERNICA

It was market day in Guernica when the church bells of Santa Maria sounded the alarm that afternoon in 1937. People from the surrounding hillsides crowded the town square. " Every Monday was a fair in Guernica", says José Monasterio, eyewitness to the bombing. " They attacked when there were a lot of people there. And they knew when their bombing would kill the most. When there are more people, more people would die"....Read more...

On May 12, 1999, The New York Times reported that the German Parliament formally apologized to the citizens of Guernica for the role the Condor legion played in bombing the town. By contrast, no formal apology to the city has ever been offered by the Spanish government for whatever role it may have played in the bombing.

EASTER

Easter, also called Resurrection Day, is a holiday. Among Christians, it is a celebration of Jesus Christ returning from the dead. Christians believe that it is the holiest day in the year. Some people who are not Christians celebrate it as the beginning of Spring.

Today, people celebrate Easter in a number of different ways: they give each other or hide to have children find, colourful Easter eggs; they also give each others candy. Sometimes they even give each other baby duckschickens, or bunnies as presents, though this is not done as much as it used to be. These ways of celebrating have nothing to do with Christianity. They come from the spring celebrations from old European nature religions. Christians, and even some people who are not Christians, dress very nicely and go to church on Easter Sunday. Large dinners are usually held on Easter afternoon as well.

THE  SPRING  SONG

SPRING  IS  HERE

Spring is here.
Birds are calling.
Skunks are crawling.
Wagging their tails for love!

Spring is here.
Whales are churning
Worms are squirming.
Wagging their tails for love!
What is this thing
Of which I sing
That makes us all bewitched?
What is this thing
That comes in Spring
That gives us all the itch?
Oh, it’s love, it’s love

It’s love, love, love, love, love

Love, love, love, love, love, love, love
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love

Love, love, love, love, love, love, love
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love

Love, love, love, love, love, love, love
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love

CARNIVAL OR CARNIVALE VIDEOS

It's a festive season which occurs immediately before lent (it lasts for a period of approximately six weeks leading up to Easter).

The main events are usually during February. Carnival typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of circus, mask and public street party. People often dress up during celebrations.

The carnival of Venice was for a long time the most famous carnival. The carnival now celebrated in some places have become divorced from their cycle in the religious year, becoming purely secular events, that take place in the summer months (Notting Hill,...).
